A brief <br />description of each of the Field Names shown in Table 3 can be found in the DEFINITION field <br />of the cntrltbl.dbf table (see Appendix II). <br />1 The methodology for calculating point flows for the Lower South Platte River incorporates <br />information defining the 'drying points' along the river. Appendix I presents a bar chart depicting <br />the location and frequency of such 'drying points' as noted by the River Commissioners in <br />Districts 1 and 64 throughout the 13 year historical study period (1981 - 1993). In viewing <br />Appendix I it is important to bear in mind that 'drying point' information is not always recorded <br />by a River Commissioner. In many instances a River Commissioner visits only the structure <br />' measuring a river diversion (flume). Such measuring structures may be several miles from the <br />river's main stem making it infeasible to visit every diversion structure that may be diverting the <br />entire river (drying point) every day. <br />State's River Diversion Records (histdiv,M). The Colorado Division of Water Resources maintains <br />historical records regarding all water diversions from the Lower South Platte River on a daily <br />basis. In most instances, the values recorded by the State are the result of day - averaging the flow <br />values which were originally measured on a continuous basis (i.e. strip chart recorder). Note that <br />for periods in which diversion flows fluctuate significantly over a 24 -hour time period, the values <br />recorded by the State represent a higher degree of accuracy than the instantaneous values <br />recorded by the River Commissioner's (see previous subsection). A sample of the State's River <br />Diversion Records can be found in Appendix III. <br />The historical diversion values maintained by the Division of Water Resources are classified not <br />only by structure, but are further categorized by the type of water diverted (i.e., water coloring). <br />Extensive coloring for source of water and use of water is done in the State's River Diversion <br />Records. This extensive coloring is not needed for a point flow study where only total diversion <br />from the river at each structure is required. All applicable water color types were combined with <br />the resulting total daily diversion values used in the histdiv.dbf database. The field names included <br />in histdiv.dbf are listed in Table 4. With the exception of the field REPORTDATE, which stores <br />the calendar date corresponding to all flow values stored in subsequent fields, all of the fields in <br />Table 4 represent specific structures. The full name of the structures affiliated with the <br />FIELDNAME codes can be interpreted from the Control Table (see Appendix II). Notice that <br />the last three code letters of most of the FIELDNAME fields representing a structure are <br />identical (DDO). Referring to Figure 4, it follows that these code letters can be decoded as: <br />Diversion (Structural Type), histDiv.dbf (Information Source), and Qutflow (Information Type). <br />The remaining three FIELDNAME fields (Field # 10, 12, and 24) portray an inflowing structure <br />23 ptflguid.wpd <br />
