videos, slide and television presentations, etc. specific to <br />the pallid sturgeon and the effects of human alteration of the <br />Missouri /Mississippi River ecosystem should be produced for <br />dissemination to specific audiences, such as sport and <br />commercial fishermen and private industry. This educational <br />effort should increase public acceptance for recovery <br />activities. <br />1.3.2. Provide cultured pallid sturgeon to aquaria and comparable <br />facilities where they can be viewed by the public. <br />Hatchery produced pallid sturgeon that are not needed for <br />broodstock, reintroduction, research, and other recovery <br />efforts should be provided to aquaria, universities, or similar <br />facilities for educational purposes. Educational exhibits <br />utilizing these fish should inform the public that this species <br />is an indicator of a deteriorating ecosystem. <br />1.4. Establish refugia of pallid sturgeon broodstock. <br />1.4.1 Collect pallid sturgeon broodstock from the wild and maintain <br />refugia at three locations. <br />Adult pallid sturgeon must be removed from the wild to serve as <br />future broodstock. This task is believed necessary to guard <br />against species extinction while protection and restoration <br />activities are being implemented for long -term recovery. <br />Wild broodstock /refugia must be esta <br />facilities to guard against catastro <br />should be transplanted to the closes <br />stress of being transported long dis <br />capture.
