According to the USFWS's Pallid Sturgeon Recovery Plan, the <br />pallid sturgeon is endanger of becoming extinct because of: <br />DESTRUCTION AND ALTERATION OF RIVERINE OR <br />AQUATIC HABITATS OF THE MISSOURI AND MISSIPPI <br />RIVERS..... 11) <br />"Destruction and alteration of big -river ecologic functions and <br />habitat once provided by the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers is <br />believed to be the primary cause of declines in reproduction, <br />growth, and survival of pallid sturgeon (USFWS Pallid <br />Sturgeon Recovery Plan, 1993)." <br />
