JO
'2 Power
The Lingle Powerplant, a feature of the
-
North Platte Project, was the first Reclama-
i is
In
tion facility in Wyoming to generate
electricity. This powerplant used water
end
from the Ft. Laramie Canal to generate
power between 1919 and 1955.
Today, hydroelectric power is produced at
six Reclamation powerplants on the North
Platte: Seminoe, Kortes, Fremont Canyon,
of
Alcova, Glendo and Guernsey.
s
These plants have a combined capacity of
over 190 megawatts. During 1984, they
set an all -time record by generating more
age
than a billion kilowatt hours of electrical
energy. This amount was sufficient to meet
the needs of 33,000 homes.
The Casper Control Center controls or
r. monitors all functions at each of the
ry powerplants. Computers help determine
how much water is in each reservoir, how
much water is being released, amount of
the power generated, and other vital informa-
tion.
Alcova Powerplant
7
