Mr. Butler may be contacted at 303 - 445 -2103, or at mark a butler@fws.gov. <br />Additional Names to Consider <br />Platte River Instream Flows and Forage Fish Community: <br />Mr. Larry Hesse <br />Mr. Hesse is the chief scientist and vice - president of River Ecosystems, Inc., and River <br />Corporation, both located in Crofton, Nebraska. He was previously employed as an aquatic <br />research biologist and large river ecologist for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (1974- <br />1994). Mr. Hesse's research experience has included work with the federal Upper Colorado <br />River Recovery Program for endangered fish, as well as numerous Missouri River fisheries <br />studies for the federal government and private sector. He has authored roughly 100 technical <br />journal papers, federal aid reports, books, and popular articles on Missouri River fisheries and <br />water management. Mr. Hesse received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Ecology from Wayne <br />State College and his Master of Arts degree in aquatic ecology from the University of South <br />Dakota. He can be reached at 402 - 388 -4276. <br />Pallid Sturgeon: <br />Mr. Steve Krentz <br />Mr. Krentz is a Fisheries Biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and serves as the <br />Pallid Sturgeon Recovery Team Leader. He has an in -depth knowledge and understanding of <br />pallid sturgeon biology and resource issues affecting the species range -wide. Mr. Krentz has <br />appeared as an expert witness before the Platte River Cooperative Agreement Governance <br />Committee and its subcommittees on multiple occasions regarding pallid sturgeon biology, and <br />has served as a peer reviewer of the lower Platte River pallid sturgeon research plan, as well as <br />the pallid sturgeon research efforts undertaken by the lower Platte River Pallid Sturgeon Task <br />Force. He was one of the principal authors of the Service's biological opinion on the U.S. Army <br />Corps of Engineers' proposed Master Manual for Missouri River operations that was recently <br />reviewed by the National Academy of Science. Mr. Krentz also serves on the Pallid Sturgeon <br />Upper, Middle, and Lower Basin Workgroups, and the Mississippi Interstate Cooperative <br />Resource Association Sturgeon and Paddlefish Committee. He has a Bachelor of Science degree <br />in Fish and Wildlife Biology from South Dakota State University.
