PREFACE <br />This is a preliminary report of the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program's (Program) <br />monitoring and research efforts for interior least terns and piping plovers during 2008 and 2009. <br />The report was prepared to inform Program partners, licensing agencies, and the general public <br />of our activities and to provide a preliminary summary of results and to fulfill the requirements <br />of state (Nebraska Master Permit #1014) and federal (USFWS #TE183430 -0) Program <br />monitoring permits. Data analyses are not final and should be treated as such when citing <br />information, data, or analyses found in this document. <br />The report contains 4 sections: Introduction, Management, Monitoring, and Research. <br />Introduction: This section provides details of the study area and summarizes conditions <br />during the 2008 and 2009 nesting seasons. <br />Management: This section describes on- and off -river land management practices used to <br />facilitate nesting and actions taken to protect interior least tern and piping plover colonies <br />and nests from predation and disturbance. <br />Monitoring: This section presents data collected annually and includes the number of <br />interior least tern and piping plover nests, adults, chicks, and fledglings observed along <br />the central Platte River during 2008 and 2009. These data are collected and summarized <br />in a form that allows comparison across the entire range of each species and includes <br />annual survey results. <br />Research: This section contains information about the methods and research related efforts <br />that began during 2009.
