San 14 102 03:12p Dik sion of Wildlife 870- 522 -8577
and geese. The recharge accretions or return flows back to the river during the summer
months of low river flows were 5 to 10 cfs. Increasing summertime flows in the river
sloughs greatly benefits minnow species habitat in the river riparian zone.
In addition, a year round minnow stream has been created at the Tamarack Ranch SWA
as part of the recharge system. The stream is 1/3 mile long supplied by 3 small lined
ponds where the ponds receive groundwater from the recharge wells. The stream has
been running continuously at 2 cfs since August 2001. CDOW and water users
M the South Platte River in the fall of 2001 for minnow species of concern for
apture and transplant to this stream system. 400 Brassy minnows were put in the supply
onds and 100 Suckermouth minnows were put in the stream. As part of the Tamarack
Ian project, 50 acres of shallow wetlands have been developed in the meadows at
amaraek Ranch. These wetlands are supplied water from the outflow of the minnow
tream and also supplied from the recharge wells or by pumping with portable pumps
irectly from the South Platte River.
completed and operational projects of the Tamarack Plan are successfully meeting
goals and objectives of CDOW for the management of the Tamarack Ranch SWA and
preservation and enhancement of habitats for aquatic species of concern and other
ilife. CDOW has developed an excellent cooperative working relationship with water
rs in the lower South Platte River through CDOW's involvement with SPLRG and the
Ization of SCTF -1006 funds. These funds in combination with water user funds have
t Tamarack Plan infrastructure and paid for operation and maintenance items such as
,trical expenses and equipment purchases.
is
$1
and
$1
tched are the 7 invoices for the utilization of SCTF -1006 funds to date through the
pinal CDOW / LSPWCD Contract and Amendment One. The total of these 7 invoices
149,821.73. The following describes in more detail the deliverables to date and their
zation as part of the Tamarack Plan. The items for Canfield Drilling, Diamond
,tics, and Master Excavating totaling $56,685.55 were for the construction of part of
recharge system (wells and pipelines). The items for Onset and Global Water totaling
344.98 were for water level monitors for observation wells to better understand the
ern of recharged groundwater to the river. The item for Gator Pump for $23,715.00
the purchase of portable pumps to supply wetland meadow areas.
item
for t
two items for the Integrated Decision Support (IDS) Group at Colorado State
rersity totaling $20,000.00 were for GIS and expert system software development
GPS field monitoring of river sloughs and groundwater tracer studies. These funds
matched with $20,000 from the Colorado Water Resources Research Institute
). The IDS effort is developing databases of habitat characteristics and needs for
es of concern. This effort is being coordinated with CDOW's Integrated
0 ent Plan (RAP) for Northeastern Colorado. The item for Dell Computer for
0.00 was the purchase of a laptop computer for use in the IDS -CSU effort, for field
tion of automatic recorder data, and for presentations on the Tamarack Plan. The
or Miles Construction for $23,000,00 was the purchase of a used front -end loader
construction of pond embankments, placement of riprap, slough development
and general maintenance of recharge system.
p.3
X
