MEETUVGBRLEFS <br />Arkansas River Basin Water Forum Held in Trinidad <br />0 ver 100 people attended the 2005 Arkansas River Ba- <br />sin Water Forum April 7 -8 in Trinidad. The Forum <br />serves as a conduit for information about the Arkansas <br />River Basin in Colorado, particularly related to water <br />allocation and management. The objective of the Forum <br />is to promote open dialogue among water users and the <br />general public, thereby creating a greater understanding of <br />Colorado water law, beneficial water use, and principals of <br />water conservation. <br />Topics discussed during the 2005 Forum in- <br />cluded coalbed methane drilling impacts on <br />water resources; ground water well permits <br />and augmentation plans; water conserva- <br />tion; instream flows; good Samaritan law <br />update; salinity and selenium; and tamarisk <br />removal planning. An April 7th afternoon <br />tour of Trinidad Lake State Park included <br />lakeside discussions of water acquisition for <br />flat -water recreation. <br />The 2005 Forum Planning Committee was <br />co- chaired by Thelma Lujan and Erma <br />Evans, both associated with the Purgatone <br />River Water Conservancy District. The <br />2006 Forum will be held in Salida.
