C O L O R A D O
WATERSHED
NETWORK
The Colorado Watershed Network
(CWN) supports watershed efforts
across Colorado through a wide variety
of programs. The mission of the
organization is to protect Colorado's
watersheds by providing services
dedicated to the development,
management, and use of water
quality data, and other aquatic habitat
information. CWN attains this goal by
providing water quality related data,
monitoring, assessment, management,
education, and information services to
help watershed organizations and others
in their management and protection of
Colorado's watersheds.
River Watch
The River Watch program is at the
heart of the CWN watershed protection
efforts. Over the last year the River
Watch program has worked directly
with ten watershed groups to collect
and analyze water quality data. CWN
has worked with over a dozen other
watershed groups in accessing and
managing water quality data for use
in watershed management activities.
Monitoring efforts continue to expand
with at least three additional watershed
groups becoming active with the River
Watch program this coming year.
River Watch had about I10 active
volunteer groups over the last year.
Through this energetic network,
approximately 1,500 field and metal
samples were collected and analyzed
at over 300 stations. The nutrient
program has more then doubled in
size over this last year, with over
500 nutrient samples collected and
analyzed. Many macroinvertebrate and
physical habitat assessments have also
been completed.
Accomplishments
Other efforts that CWN has worked
on over the last year include:
Through our Private Land Wildlife
Biology program, CWN partners
with Federal and State agencies
to put wildlife biologists on the
ground in eastern Colorado with
the goal of enhancing wildlife
habitat protection on private
lands.
statewide update
CWN is working with the EPA
to conduct necessary monitoring
on the states Monitoring and
Evaluation impaired water bodies
list (303(d) M &E).
Other CWN Services
In addition to the River Watch
program, CWN provides focused
services to watershed audiences
through a comprehensive water quality
approach at both a statewide and local
levels. Our cost effective services
integrate a watershed approach to
provide accessible data, services,
and information related to chemical,
physical, biological water resources.
CWN provides services in cooperation
with our partners to manage Colorado's
watershed resources & creates
opportunities to achieve mutual goals
among diverse stakeholders. CWN
works with partners to perform water
analysis and utilizes this information
in water quality regulatory and
related processes. CWN can assist
your organization in managing and
translating data into useful information.
CWN also works with watershed groups
to develop watershed assessments,
and provide outreach efforts in the
protection of water resources.
With our staff of 15, plus technical
specialists, CWN is involved in
these and other projects.
