Colorado Water Conservation Board
Attitude & Awareness Survey
Executive Summary
To better understand how key stakeholder groups view CWCB and the awareness
stakeholders have regarding services and programs provided by CWCB, SeeComm Group
conducted an Attitude and Awareness study in May 2008. Emails were sent to 4,728
constituents to request completion of a web based questionnaire. This report provides
detailed analysis of responses of water professionals relating to CWCB and its resources.
These findings are designed to inform and improve communication and marketing efforts
of CWCB in general and the specific services and programs of each CWCB section.
Key Findings
• CWCB was the most mentioned (45 %) when asked "unaided" what water
resource providers came to mind. Seventeen (17 %) named CWCB first.
• Ninety (90 %) percent of all respondents are aware of CWCB.
• Seventy -four (74 %) percent have accessed CWCB for information, 61% within
the past 12 months.
• "Low interest water project loans" carried the best satisfaction rating with 81%
giving a rating of 4 or 5 out of a possible 5 points.
• Seventy -seven (77 %) percent of respondents gave "weather modification
permitting" and "flood planning, protection, and mitigation programs" a 4 or 5
satisfaction rating out of a possible 5 points.
• When asked to compare the CWCB resources compared to other providers
CWCB was mostly rated "about the same" by 50% of those familiar with CWCB.
About 20% of respondents rated CWCB better than other providers while 5 %-
9% gave other providers a better rating. Another 20% did not have an opinion.
• Almost 60% of respondents were not aware of the depth of information CWCB
provides. Municipalities were significantly lower with 80% unaware.
• Fifty -five (55 %) percent of respondents have some or complete understanding
of the differences between DWR and CWCB.
• CWCB was the most volunteered single website visited at 38 %. Other popular
websites were water.state.co.us (32%), waterdata.usgs.gov, cdphe and
co.water.usgs.gov each at (27 %). Overall the USGS websites were the most
utilized. Twenty -two (22 %) do not use websites.
• Thirty -nine (39 %) percent of the respondents have been involved in water
issues twenty years of more.
• Sixty (60 %) percent of the respondents who completed the survey were over 50,
with almost 9% at 65 or older. Only 8.6% were thirty five or younger.
CWCB Awareness Study
July 2008
Page 3
SEECOMM GROUP
