The original Fish Creek Reservoir was
formed by two earth -fill embankments: a 70 -foot high main dam and a 20 -foot
high saddle dam. The reservoir originally had a storage volume of 1,842 acre -feet
at the normal water level (NWL) elevation 9, 866 feet. In 1991, URS Greiner
Woodward Clyde evaluated enlargement alternatives for the reservoir. The owners
selected a 20 -foot upstream raise of the main dam plus construction of a new 40-
foot high saddle dam, to increase the reservoir storage by approximately 2,280
acre -feet.
The outlet works consist of two electrically operated sluice gates in separate conduits
through the embankment, and a stilling basin where releases are monitored at a
new gaging station. The sluice gates can be locally operated, or can be remotely
operated from the city in conjunction with the automated data acquisition system
(ADAS). The instrument system will transmit data to the city, where the operating
personnel will be able to control reservoir operations and monitor the dam for safety
conditions. The dam is inaccessible for about six months of the year, during the
winter.
/3OVLE
