The original Fish Creek Reservoir was <br />formed by two earth -fill embankments: a 70 -foot high main dam and a 20 -foot <br />high saddle dam. The reservoir originally had a storage volume of 1,842 acre -feet <br />at the normal water level (NWL) elevation 9, 866 feet. In 1991, URS Greiner <br />Woodward Clyde evaluated enlargement alternatives for the reservoir. The owners <br />selected a 20 -foot upstream raise of the main dam plus construction of a new 40- <br />foot high saddle dam, to increase the reservoir storage by approximately 2,280 <br />acre -feet. <br />The outlet works consist of two electrically operated sluice gates in separate conduits <br />through the embankment, and a stilling basin where releases are monitored at a <br />new gaging station. The sluice gates can be locally operated, or can be remotely <br />operated from the city in conjunction with the automated data acquisition system <br />(ADAS). The instrument system will transmit data to the city, where the operating <br />personnel will be able to control reservoir operations and monitor the dam for safety <br />conditions. The dam is inaccessible for about six months of the year, during the <br />winter. <br />/3OVLE <br />
