• <br />Relevant Features to <br />CRRP <br />0 Environmental <br />issues /wetlands <br />0 Large- diameter — up <br />to 78 inches <br />0 Complex Geology <br />Southern Nevada Water Authority <br />1900 East Flamingo Road <br />Suite 170 <br />Michael Haydock <br />(702) 862 -3410 <br />Project Description <br />East Valley lateral <br />P;pel ne <br />The 78 -inch diameter East Valley Lateral Pipeline, known as Contract 170 -A, <br />originates at the River Mountain Reservoir, extends northward across the Las Vegas <br />Wash (Wash), parallels the north bank of the Wash west until it turns northwesterly <br />and parallels the existing 90 -inch Las Vegas Lateral (LVL) up to a point south of <br />Vegas Valley Drive. <br />Boyle Engineers provided Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) with an <br />evaluation, design and construction services for a pipeline crossing the <br />environmentally sensitive Las Vegas Wash design and construction services. The <br />results of the evaluation were used to determine the actual pipeline crossing (tunnel, <br />as part of a grade control structure or with a pipe bridge). Development of the <br />alternatives and a recommendation for the wash crossing was an iterative process. <br />Based upon project criteria and objectives, three wash crossing alternatives were <br />developed. Features of these alternatives, including the exact alignment, were <br />adjusted based upon direction by the SNWA, and to account for unusual conditions <br />discovered in the field. These include discovery of an unfavorable geologic fault, <br />large amount of perch lorate-contam i nated groundwater, and unfavorable bedrock <br />conditions. Protection of existing wetlands during construction played a role in <br />determining the preferred crossing alternative. Detailed construction cost opinions for <br />the alternatives were developed. <br />
