2000 -2001 Basin Planning Meetings <br />Water Project Highlights <br />Projects in each basin were identified. This is a <br />summary, by basin, of projects that could possibly be <br />funded by the CWCB. <br />South Platte River Basin <br />• High elevation storage for Upper South Platte water <br />users in conjunction with downstream users <br />• Assist with the purchase or acquisition of water <br />rights for instream flow to preserve fisheries <br />• Develop groundwater augmentation facilities to <br />help preserve groundwater levels in Park County <br />• Improve and preserve the Highland Canal <br />• Rehabilitate several river diversions along the St. <br />Vrain River and Boulder Creek <br />North Platte River Basin <br />• Construct water treatment plant for the town of <br />Walden <br />• Use the CWCB construction funds to purchase <br />instream flow rights to prevent the dry up of <br />agricultural lands. <br />Arkansas River Basin <br />• Three to four small reservoirs or gravel pits for the <br />Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District <br />• An Arkansas River Valley Pipeline from Pueblo <br />Reservoir for Fry -Ark Water, to serve La Junta, <br />Lamar and other counties <br />• Support repairs and rehabilitation of diversion dams <br />Rio Grande River Basin <br />• River restoration above South Fork, in the Closed <br />Basin and in the Conejos River Basin <br />• Headgate rehabilitation and replacement projects as <br />identified by the Rio Grande Restoration Study <br />• Additional storage above Terrace Reservoir for <br />multiple purposes such as flood control and storage <br />for endangered species releases <br />• Headgate repairs along the Alamosa River <br />Colorado Mainstem River Basin <br />• Mesa County area storm water projects feasibility <br />study and subsequent storm water projects <br />Gunnison - Uncompahgre River Basin <br />• Additional storage on the North Fork of the <br />Gunnison <br />Page 3 <br />• Upgrade of the Shawuno Soil Conservancy District's <br />Roadtrap Creek Dam from Class II to Class I <br />Yampa -White River Basin <br />• River restoration for the Elkhead Property Owners <br />Association to address erosion occurring below <br />Elkhead Dam <br />• River restoration project by Routt County and city of <br />Steamboat Springs between old sewage ponds near <br />Riverside and KOA campground <br />• Small multipurpose reservoirs used for both releases <br />for endangered species and to support private <br />development on the Yampa <br />• Construction of a raw water intake for the town of <br />Rangeley <br />• Dam rehabilitation on Bell Creek <br />• Repair of the Oak Ridge ditch headgate <br />San Juan - Dolores -San Miguel River Basin <br />• Loan for a dual water system in the town of Mancos <br />and a possible grant for issues of statewide concern in <br />the La Plata Basin <br />• Construction of a dam on Long Hollow (near the CO <br />and NM boarder) <br />• Raw water storage project in Archuleta County with <br />the San Juan Water Conservation District <br />• Develop Cone and Salt Tide Reservoirs <br />• Financial and technical assistance to stop the leakage <br />and leachates from the Silver Creek Mine that are <br />penetrating into the Dolores water <br />• Funding for agricultural portion of Water for <br />Everyone Tomorrow Package ( WETPACK) to lease <br />water from Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company <br />for agricultural land <br />• Funding for fisheries portion of WETPACK <br />• Floodplain restoration projects near Norwood, San <br />Miguel, and Upper Blanco <br />• Water storage to address lower basin requirements for <br />instream flows and other water uses <br />• New water systems needed for several towns <br />including Telluride, Ophir, South Park and others. <br />
