ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
This report could not have been prepared without the generous support of the Culpepper
Foundation and the A.W. Mellon Foundation. Individuals who authored a chapter or contributed
significant portions to a section are listed as contributors. Those who offered their technical expertise
to the authors, particularly with hydrologic and sediment -load aspects of the Platte River, are listed
as consultants. The authors wish to thank Audubon staff members Ed Pembleton, Liz Raisbeck,
Hope Babcock, Mike Duever, Chuck Frith, and Peter Berle for their insightful comments on
numerous drafts. Their unending devotion to the Platte River effort, stamina and poise in the hottest
of circumstances, and moral support laid the foundation for this report. In addition, other members
of Audubon's family commented on various manuscript drafts and their contributions are
acknowledged with gratitude. They are: board members Bart Rea, Scott Reed, and Janet Green;
and chapter members Tom Shoemaker of the Fort Collins, Colorado, Audubon Society; Katie
Hamrick and Lois Drury of the Aiken Audubon Society of Colorado; and Carole Closter of the
Wachiska Audubon Society in Nebraska. In addition, the fine map work by Vernita Nemec, and
Dorene Bolze's knowledge of computerese and willingness to assist is very much appreciated.
Thanks are also extended to other individuals not directly associated with Audubon who
offered their candid reviews of the report in its various forms. While the review process was helpful
in identifying any factual misrepresentations and unclear passages that may have existed, the authors
accept responsibility for any errors that remain. We must make clear that even though we
acknowledge the contributions of outside reviewers, we are not implying that they all necessarily
endorse this report.
Outside Reviewers:
Bob Jacobsen, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
David Bowman, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Craig Faanes, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Gary Krapu, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Bob Green, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Mark Butler, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Anne Bleed, Nebraska Dept. of Water Resources
Chris Meyer, National Wildlife Federation
Paul Currier, Platte River Trust
Laurel Yasui, Denver Water Dept.
Bob Fischer, Denver Water Dept.
Ann Hodgson, Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources
Alan Mauzy, Wyoming Water Development Commission
Michael Purcell, Wyoming Water Development Commission
William Thalken, Nebraska Public Power District
Ross Lock, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission
Barry Smith, EA Engineering, Science & Technology, Inc.
Perry Wigley, University of Nebraska
Vincent Dreeszen, University of Nebraska
Ray Bentall, University of Nebraska
Thomas Tacha, Southern Illinois University
John Green, University of Minnesota
Tom Pitts, Tom Pitts & Associates
Frank Dragoun, Nebraska Water Resources Association
Dave Engles, Casper Board of Public Utilities
Jim Lewis, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
