As a result, a <br />portion of the associated costs will be included under Task 12. <br />(1) Extremely dense forests of phragmites and other vegetation at several sites has significantly slowed the survey crews. <br />(2) Access to some sites has been extremely difficult and time consuming, especially in areas that have dense vegetation and no established trails or roads. These areas <br />required a significant amount of time on foot and ATV to find a route into and out of the survey sites. <br />(3) A number of sites have more than one active channel which required surveying. These back channels and braid channels are often separated from the main channel <br />by heavily vegetated islands that require crossing on foot. These channels are not those identified as split flow channels requiring surveys as defined in the protocol. <br />(4) High flows ( >1,000 cfs) on a couple of days precluded the sediment sampling crew from obtaining bed and bank material samples at several sites because of deep flow <br />depths and high velocities. <br />(5) Extreme weather (including lightening) that has delayed field crews from conducting the field work. <br />(6) Access issues have caused the crews to bypass and then return to a few sites which results in some additional field time. <br />(7) The additional time required to contact landowners regarding upcoming access each day. <br />(8) Equipment (boat) problems resulting from the low flows that followed the short duration high flows in April have delayed the completion of the longitudinal profile survey. <br />
