Flood waters also caused more minor
problems near Manzanola and Rocky Ford.
Both the Brisendine and Roman homes were ruined
beyond repair and filled with sewage- tainted muck.
Brisendine's attached salon was wrecked, too, putting her
out of business for a year.
"At first, you're just shell- shocked," she said of the
experience.
Now, they're back home, mostly.
Brisendine still has some work to do on her new modular
home /shop before she can move in for good. Across the
street, the Lantz family is getting ready to move back
home, too, having lived away from their house for a year.
"I'm a happy camper," Mrs. Lantz said.
Brisendine said she never really thought about doing
anything but rebuilding here. In the past year, she's lived
with friends in La Junta, Cheraw and Rocky Ford while
waiting for her house to be rebuilt.
"I already had my land, my horses and I had my business
47
k
M 0 V I E Q U1 E TTm
TVQUEST
MR
1 of 5 5/5/00 4:25 PM
