Site Characterization
Summary Report
The Consulting Team began
gathering and analyzing data for
the Site Characterization Report
(SCR) last summer, and it proved
to be quite a task ... more than
640,000 records of water quality
and sediment data were
incorporated into an electronic
database by the team.
The main purposes of the
SCR are to describe the nature
and extent of contamination, map
areas affected by mine waste,
identify potential contaminant
pathways and describe injuries to
natural resources caused by
mining- related contaminants.
An initial draft of the SCR
was completed by the team, and
it is currently being reviewed by
the MOU Parties. The MOU
Parties are to have their
comments on the SCR to the
Consulting Team by the end of
December. By mid January, the
Consulting Team will give the
MOU Parties a time -frame for
incorporating their comments
into the SCR and distributing the
next draft to the MOU Parties.
The MOU Parties will review
that draft and determine if the
Parties'comments have been
addressed and when the SCR
will be released to the public.

Liaison Committee
The MOU parties met with
the Liaison Committee June 21,
2000, to discuss the progress on
the SCR made by the
Consulting Team and what
information the Liaison
Committee had gathered from
the public.
The Liaison Committee is not
scheduled to meet again until
the SCR is released to the
public. Once the SCR is
distributed, the public will have
at least six weeks to comment.
