Las Animas judge looks forward to federal bench <br />The Pueblo Chieftain Online <br />Select file then print to print this article. <br />Publish Date Sunday September 16, 2001 <br />Robert Blackburn <br />http://www.chieftain.com/print.php3?story--I l <br />Las Animas judge looks forward to federal bench <br />By MATT NESLAND <br />The Pueblo Chieftain <br />LA JUNTA - District Judge Robert Blackburn says it is both exciting and humbling to be nominated for <br />a federal court judgeship. <br />He was informed last Monday that President Bush has nominated him for federal district court bench in <br />Denver. <br />Blackburn said he was in court in Las Animas when the telephone call came from the White House <br />Counsel. He had known he was being considered, but wasn't sure he would be nominated. <br />"I was excited," Blackburn said. "It's both an exciting and a humbling moment." <br />He has served as a state district judge here for 13 years, first appointed by former Gov. Roy Romer in <br />July 1998. For the previous 13 years, he was a private lawyer in Las Animas and handled many different <br />types of cases, he said. <br />Blackburn resides in Las Animas but will move to Denver if he is confirmed for the federal bench, he <br />said. He has lived here since he was 11 years old and considers Las Animas his hometown. <br />Before the confirmation process begins, Blackburn will be investigated thoroughly by the American Bar <br />Association's committee on the federal judiciary, he said.
