Poncha to <br />pay $6,800 -yin <br />reservoir, fees <br />by Merle garanczyk <br />Mail Editor /Publisher <br />Preliminary fees for partici- <br />pation in a proposal to expand <br />Pueblo and Turquoise reser- <br />voirs will cost the town of Pon- <br />cha Springs about $6,800, to be <br />paid over the next three years. <br />Town officials Monday eve- <br />ning approved a memorandum <br />of understanding with the <br />Southeast Colorado Water <br />Conservancy District to partic- <br />ipate in the Preferred Storage <br />Options Plan to •enlarge the <br />two reservoirs by up to 94,000 <br />acre feet. <br />Pat Alderton; town Adminis <br />trator and clerk, said the fees <br />would be Poncha's share for <br />implementation of the plan for <br />legal, engineering, accounting, <br />consulting and administrative <br />costs. <br />Total cost for the implemen- <br />tation plan is estimated at just <br />over $2 million: Costs are to be <br />shared between participants <br />based on the number -of acre <br />feet they propose to lease. <br />Alderton said Steve Mon-` <br />son, the town's water'attorney, <br />recommended Poncha reserve <br />125 acre feet of storage, an <br />amount representing -.334 per -. <br />cent of the total enlargement <br />storage proposed. <br />Alderton said the imple- <br />mentation budget only repre- <br />sents costs associated with <br />planning for the 'enlargement. <br />Actual construction costs are <br />to be determined after Con -, <br />greys approves the plan. <br />Construction .:-work is <br />expected to begin at some time <br />uontinuea from page 1.. <br />between 2006 and 2008. <br />Poncha and .others involved <br />in the proposal could choose to <br />opt out of the project at that <br />time, when actual. construc- <br />tions costs are determined <br />along with the percentage <br />shares of costs. <br />The $6,800 is only an esti- <br />mate of implementation costs. <br />According to the agreement, <br />'the town would -pay its share <br />based on actual expenses in- <br />curred. <br />water lease agreements; and <br />officials from Salida at 5 p.m. <br />According to the agreement, <br />• Storage space for short =.,or <br />: on Oct.
