Xeriscape Demonstration Garden <br />The District has created a wonderful learning tool for the residents of southern Colorado <br />by cultivating the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. The garden provides an opportunity <br />to become familiar with many different low -water plants that can be used in a landscape. <br />The coordinator provides guided tours of the garden and also has developed a number of <br />educational opportunities to encourage water- conservation in a landscape. The educational <br />programs available are presentations on (1) The Principles of Xeriscape and How to apply <br />them to a Landscape, (2) Plants that Prosper in a Low -Water Garden, (3) and Coping with <br />Drought in the Landscape. The coordinator travels throughout the District to provide these <br />programs to the public. The coordinator has <br />s, also developed an in -depth Plant Performance <br />Evaluation System. The garden plants are can Van Pelt <br />periodically evaluated and data is kept on how Educational Program <br />�+ they have performed in the garden. This data is & Maintenance <br />compiled into a yearly report and states which Coordinator <br />} rE plants have succeeded or failed in the garden. <br />ki x; The intended goal is that this information will be used to encourage proper <br />plant selection and to illustrate which plants thrive in the southern portion of <br />the state. <br />The garden is located at 31717 United Avenue, Pueblo, Colorado (in the <br />Pueblo Airport Industrial Park).
