The Pueblo Chieftain Online Page 2 of 2
of citizens now," said Lujan. "It is a serious problem and hopefully the
commissioners and other local governmental entities can resolve it."
Lujan said he wants to see a final draft of the Nov. 2 ballot measure, which
proposes to extend the county's 1 -cent sales tax for possibly 10 more years
and create a trust fund to help the hospital attract more physicians and needed
equipment. Torres said the commissioners are planning a public forum, possibly
the week of Aug. 22, to get feedback before a final ballot issue draft is
presented.
Torres was succinct about where he stands on the hospital issue. "If we lose
this hospital, we lose our whole future in this community. We would lose any
future businesses that would want to come here. As a commissioner, I want to
work with them, not against them."
©1996- 2004The Pueblo Chieftain Online
http: / /www. chieftain. com /print.php ?article= /metro/1092290400/5 8/12/2004
