The Pueblo Chieftain Online Page 4 of 4
. . I.
Arkansas River. Portions of that outflow are used for exchanges.
Pueblo applies a portion of its reusable water to some senior exchanges, but
does not recycle water for nonpotable purposes. In 2000, Pueblo exchanged
178 acre -feet of wastewater effluent, 40 acre feet of Comanche power plant
returns and 131 acre -feet of lawn- watering returns. In 2001, the totals were
471 153 and 96, respectively, and 2002 totals were 529, 20 and 64.
Pueblo considered using nonpotable water from shallow wells along Fountain
Creek to irrigate the Walkingstick golf course but decided against it because of
poor water quality. Pueblo's City Park irrigates with water from the Bessemer
Ditch, and the Water Works supplies the Comanche power plant with untreated
water from the Arkansas River.
©1996- 2004The Pueblo Chieftain Online
http : / /www.chieftain.com /print.php ?article= /metro /1092549600/1 8/16/2004
