The Pueblo Chieftain Online
the exchange water this year, and has bypassed less than the required amount
on several other occasions, according to a spokesman for the Colorado River
district.
After discussing the issues in executive session, the board authorized its legal
staff to make a settlement proposal to the Colorado district, and to continue
settlement negotiations with Aspen.
"I'm pretty optimistic about reaching agreement with the river district, less
certain about Aspen," Leonhardt said after the meeting.
The PSOP legislation, introduced by Rep. Joel Hefley, R- Colorado Springs, would
authorize storage of water that is not from the Frying pan- Arkansas Project in
Lake Pueblo and a feasibility study of enlarging Pueblo and Turquoise
reservoirs. It is supported by Reps. Bob Beauprez and Tom Tancredo, but has
not been endorsed by the remainder of Colorado's federal delegation. Support
of the legislation by the Colorado River district is considered vital to gaining
that approval.
In another business item, the board approved a 960 square -foot addition and
other improvements to its office building at a cost of $230,000.
©1996- 2004The Pueblo Chieftain Online
http: / /www. chieftain. com /print.php ?article= /Metro/1092981600/4 8/23/2004
