0
3. Identification of species protection strategies.
Within these three major phases, more specific steps would need
to be spelled out to achieve effective implementation, such as:
Inventory
• Identify "rare," "sensitive, "or "endangered" species in
Colorado which depend upon aquatic, wetland, wet meadow
or riparian habitat for a significant portion of their
lives;
• Determine the current geographic distribution and
population trends of those species;
-
Limitina Factors
• Identify the ecological factors which may be limiting /
the distribution or abundance of these species in the
wild;
• Identify and evaluate existing threats to the continued
well -being or survival of these species;
• Prioritize the identified threats and limiting habitat
factors along with opportunities to assist the species
efficiently;
Protection Strategies
• Develop cooperative strategies for effective and well -
coordinated action to avoid any further decline in the
status of those species;
• Implement the indicated actions; and
• <er7d research and monitor the status of those
species.
In addition to these specific steps, the following efforts would
be essential throughout this process:
• Coordinate with and seek the support and participation
of the many local governments, organizations, and
interests which could be significantly affected by
these efforts;
• Establish agreements with appropriate federal agencies
to secure their support for the implementation of
necessary research, planning, and actions; and
8
