Identification of species protection strategies. <br />Within these three major phases, more specific steps would need <br />to be spelled out to achieve effective implementation, such as: <br />Inventory <br />• Identify "rare," "sensitive, "or "endangered" species in <br />Colorado which depend upon aquatic, wetland, wet meadow <br />or riparian habitat for a significant portion of their <br />lives; <br />• Determine the current geographic distribution and <br />population trends of those species; <br />- <br />Limitina Factors <br />• Identify the ecological factors which may be limiting / <br />the distribution or abundance of these species in the <br />wild; <br />• Identify and evaluate existing threats to the continued <br />well -being or survival of these species; <br />• Prioritize the identified threats and limiting habitat <br />factors along with opportunities to assist the species <br />efficiently; <br />Protection Strategies <br />• Develop cooperative strategies for effective and well - <br />coordinated action to avoid any further decline in the <br />status of those species; <br />• Implement the indicated actions; and <br />• <er7d research and monitor the status of those <br />species. <br />In addition to these specific steps, the following efforts would <br />be essential throughout this process: <br />• Coordinate with and seek the support and participation <br />of the many local governments, organizations, and <br />interests which could be significantly affected by <br />these efforts; <br />• Establish agreements with appropriate federal agencies <br />to secure their support for the implementation of <br />necessary research, planning, and actions; and <br />8 <br />
