5TATE OF COLORADO
OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 718
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3 31 1 ioilv
TDD: (303) 866 -3543
FAX: (303) 866-2115 DEPARTMENT OF
ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER
NATURAL
RESOURCES
r REr IVES DNR 001 -94 Roy Romer
Governor
- -• Ken Salazar
y February 9, 1994 Executive Director
Ron Cattany
Deputy Director
ENDANGERED FISH RECOVERY PROGRAM
Coordination of State Responsibilities
In 1988, Governor Romer signed a cooperative agreement under which the State of
Colorado joined the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Western Area Power Administration,
the states of Utah and Wyoming, and representatives of the water development and environmental
communities in a cooperative partnership to recover the endangered fishes of the Upper Colorado
River Basin while allowing water development to proceed in accordance with state laws and
interstate compacts. This cooperative partnership offers the State of Colorado many unusual
opportunities to coordinate the implementation of endangered species protection with state laws,
property rights, and responsibilities for the development and management of wildlife, water
resources, and land use.
Since 1988, Colorado's commitment to the Recovery Program for Endangered Fishes of the
Upper Colorado Basin has required the dedication of substantial resources to assure that our
proposals and decisions reflect careful consideration of this state's various interests, and that this
state enjoys the continued benefits of this cooperative partnership.
Colorado's continued leadership in the identification, evaluation, and selection of
opportunities for the implementation of this endangered species recovery program is essential.
Therefore, I find it necessary to appoint Peter Evans, Deputy Director for the Colorado Water
Conservation Board, with the continued responsibility to coordinate the communication among
Colorado interests to maintain Colorado's strong, constructive presence in this program.
This administrative order shall expire one year from today, or at such earlier time as it may
be superseded by subsequent orders.
s
Executive Director
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
1/ 9, / q (-J/
Date
Board of Land Commissioners • Division of Minerals & Geology /Geological Survey
Oil & Gas Conservation Commission • Division of Parks & Outdoor Recreation • Soil Conservation Board
Water Conservation Board • Division of Water Resources • Division of Wildlife
