Degree of detail and accuracy of the various
surveys vary to a considerable extent, depending upon the type of investi-
gation made, that is, preliminary inspection, reconnaissance, semi - detail,
detail or construction survey. In connection with the various investigations
made ty the Bureau of Reclamation, surveys have been made to establish both
horizontal and vertical control for mapping and other purposes. Vertical
control established varies from second order to fourth order levels. Hori-
zontal control is of similar accuracy being established by triangulation
and transit -chain traverse. This work is usually confined to individual
projects and the basic survey data for each is discussed by projects.
Exhibit lla is an "Aerial Photo and Survey Index's for the area
covered by the Oklahoma City Office, which includes the Arkansas Basin
in Kansas below Ellinwood and in Oklahoma and in the Red River Basin in
Oklahoma and Texas. The items covered include reservoir topography, dam
site topography, project topography, land classification surveys, canal
topography, and canal surveys.
Exhibit Ilb gives a further description of these surveys by projects.
Similar information is also available for Bureau of Reclamation projects
in other areas of the Basins
12. State Highway Planning Surveys.
Each State within the Basin has a Highway Planning Survey. Each of these
State agencies has compiled a set.of planimetrie maps which are essentially
an inventory of all existing highways, roads, and other vehicular trans-
portation roads. These maps are usually compiled on the scale of two inches
equal one mile'and. are reproduced as county maps at various scales, usually
one inch equals one mile and one -half inch.-equals one mile,
Specific information on the maps of the respective States is being
compiled and the maps are available from the various. State Highway Planning
Survey Offices,
13. State Transportation Maps.
The United States Bureau of Public Roads is compiling State Trans-
portation Maps at a uniform scale of Is250,000 to`show the Federal and
State Highway transportation systems. These maps are available for the
States of New Mexico and Texas.
