Page 3 of 3 <br />David L. Bernhardt, Deputy Interior Solicitor, has been nominated as Solicitor. The Senate Energy and <br />Natural Resources Committej 'acted favorably on the nomination on September 13, and it is now on the Senate <br />Executive Calendar. AA?atiy6 of Rifle, Colorado, Bernhardt served former Secretary Gale Norton as a Counselor, <br />Deputy Chief of Staff a erector of Congressional and Legislative Affairs. <br />Robert W. Johnson testified before the Committee on his nomination as Commissioner of the Bureau of <br />Reclamation on September 14. A native of Lovelock, Nevada, he grew up on a farm raising alfalfa hay and grain, <br />as well as beef cattle. His mother and brother's family still live on and operate the farm. He went to work for the <br />Bureau in 1975, in Sacramento, as an agricultural economist. Now, 31 years later, he is Director of the Lower <br />Colorado Region. <br />C. Steven Allred, a former WSWC member from Idaho, also testified at the hearing on his nomination to <br />be Interior Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Development. A native of Rigby, he comes from a farming <br />and ranching background, worked on the California Water Project and later was Director of the Idaho Department <br />of Water Resources. In 1981, he joined Morrison - Knudsen Corp., retiring in 1999.
