Chapter 4 — Eligibility Determination <br />Colorado River, Segment 2 <br />Location/Description: BLM sections of the Colorado River east of Grand Junction downstream <br />from thc Grand Valley Divcrsion Dam. <br />"�otal Segment Length: 40.24 miles <br />Segment Length on BLM Land: I.31 miles <br />Description and Justification of Outstandingly Remarkablc Values: <br />I� ish <br />'I�his ORV is the same as for segment I. <br />rentative Classification and Level of I luman Activity: <br />The tentative classitication for this segmcnt is recrcational. Interstate 70 and a railroad run <br />parallel to the river in the river corridor and both are apparent from the river. <br />Colorado River, Segment 3 <br />Location/Description: BLM sections of thc Colorado River west of Grand Junetion from [he <br />l,oma Boat Launch to the Utah/Colorado border. <br />Total Segment Length: 20.91 miles <br />Segment Length on I3LM Land: 19.14 miles <br />Description and Justification of Outstandingly Remarkable Values: <br />Scenic <br />The Mclnnis Canyons NCA, which bordcrs the majority of the this segment of the Colorado <br />River, was designated in 2000 to protect "unique and nationally important values of [he public <br />lands in the NCA, including geological, cultural, paleontological, natural, scientitic, <br />recreational, environmental, biological, wilderness, wildlifc education, and scenic resource." <br />The Colorado River is the perfect vantage to view the shear walis of Ruby and Florsethief <br />Canyons and the many sidc canyons, alcoves, pinnacles. amphi[hcaters, and o[her uniyue <br />sandstone formations formed by the erosional forces of the river. The many diffcrent exposed <br />layers show a wealth of geologic history and offer a varicty of different colors and testures <br />throughout the canyons. These valucs, in combination with opportunities to view rare species <br />such as Bald Eagles and [3ighorn Sheep, examine petroglyphs, and enjoy the contrast of the <br />green vegetation and multiple carth tones ofthe dcssert, make the scenery in this section <br />outstandingly remarkable. <br />Wild and Scenic River Eligibility Report, Grand Junction Field Office, Colorado � � <br />
