Chapter 2 —EliRibility Criteria
2.3 Potential Classifications for Eligible Segments
River and strcam segments dctcrmined to be free-flowing and possessing at least one ORV were
assigned a tentative dassification. Thcre are three possiblc classitications based on the amount of
development, accessibility, and water yuality long the watercourse or shorelinc. There is some
Flexibility in this determination, and the tinal decision relies on professional judgment (sce'fable
2.1).
Table 2.1: Attributes Leading to Tentative Classification of H:ligible River Segment under the
Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968
1.:lttribu[es IL Classifica[ion
Vild Scenic Recreational
Water Pree of impoundmenl Free of impoundment Some existing impoundment or
Resources diversion.
Ucvelopmen[ Ihe esis[cnce of low dams,
(impoundmcnts,
diversions, eteJ diversions, riprap, or other
modifications ofthc wa[envay is
acceptable, provided the
watenvay remains generally
na[ural and riverinc in
a earance.
Shoreline F.ssentially primitive.
