What the Colorado River Compact Does
Divides the right to beneficially use Colorado River water
between the States of the Upper and Lower Basins in
perpetuity
Apportions the Upper Basin exclusive beneficial use of
7.5 million acre -feet (maf) per year
Apportions the Lower Basin exclusive beneficial use of
7.5 maf, with a right to develop an additional 1 maf per
year
Requires Upper Division States to “not cause the flow at
Lee Ferry to be depleted below an aggregate of” 75 maf
over any ten year period
