Lake Meredith Reservoir Company owns <br />Lake Meredith Reservoir, in Crowley County, which has a capacity of 41,000 acre -feet. <br />Lake Meredith is a natural depression, with a channel once constructed from its lowest <br />point to the Arkansas River, about 9 miles away. In the outlet channel about 5 miles <br />from the lowest point in the reservoir, is the outlet works, near State Highway 71. In this <br />5 mile reach, any time the water elevation is higher than the outlet channel, the lake <br />bottom silt liquefies and runs back into the outlet channel, trapping as much as 18,000 <br />acre -feet in the lake. A campaign with excavators, dozers, draglines and even a dredge, <br />takes place each time we enter a drought.
