Minimal additional infrastructure will be required to incorporate the turbine into this diversion
dam. A general schematic of the proposed configuration is shown below. This schematic does not
reflect the entire site, but only the bay that the turbine will be installed in. As you can see in the
photograph of the site, there are two bays with radial
gates (sand gates), one of which will be used to house the
a - turbine. The radial gate will stay in place and the turbine
+ x . will sit behind a new concrete wall within the bay. The
` , '.`»
x draft tube will extend into a lower stilling pool that will
   ° ,
, , . . maintaiil adequate submergence.
_
Schematic of proposed configuration
of the cassette for maintenance.
The Ogee Weir of the diversion dam will act as a bypass in
the case of emergency or maintenance. The radial gate
will be programmed to close in the case of a grid failure to
prevent run away speeds in the generator. A simple crane
will be installed above the turbine to assist in the removal
Upstream of the turbine a screen will be installed to prevent the passage of large fish into the
machine. The SLH turbine will pass smaller 2-4 inch long fish without damage to the fish or the
equipment. Larger fish will not be allowed to enter the machine using the screen. This screen will
be designed to be self cleaning and require little maintenance.
CONCEPTUALPLAN
Conceptual plans including a plan and elevation of the hydropower facility is included in Appendix
B of this report.
C0S`I' I°;"1"1lA"1`t°;
` Rio Grande Canal Water Users Association Project Description-
