<br />Contractor Placing Fill Over Sand Blanket Along Downstream Face of Dam Embankment

<br />This $1,000,000 project involved the rehabilitation of Foothills Reservoir, located west of
<br />Longmont in Boulder County. The existing dam had an inadequate spillway and severe seepage
<br />through the embankment and had a storage restriction placed on it by the State Engineer. The
<br />improvements to the reservoir included a new spillway, a sand filter blanket along the downstream
<br />face of the dam, a perimeter toe drain with flow measuring devices, rip rap placement along the
<br />upstream face of the dam, and reconstruction of the dam crest. The project was awarded to Zak
<br />Dirt, out of Longmont, Colorado, who commenced construction in December of 2000 and
<br />completed the project in February of 2002.
