The Pro j ect
The Gand Rier Ditch is also called the Cactus Valey Ditch. The water for the dzch is
diveied out of t,he Colorado River. The vvater right are for Ditch No. 82-A wih Priority
No. 142-B in Vater District 39, The water rights are for 50 CFS and ware initialy
grantd in May of 8$9.
The praject is to install approximately I400 feet of 60" pipe near he ntake of the ditch
fxom ihe Coorado River west af New Castle. The pipeline replaces a stone wall built
over 10 years ago that separates the river from the ditch.
The ditch delivers water 0 148 shareholders, which also includes the Town o Silt and
other industra.l users. Th majoxity of the shareholders use the water for agriculture,
growing hay and pasure, and small tree farms.
During he znrigation season of 20a9, the ston wal was breachd, and rvex water rushed
ino the diich. That breach was repaired to allow the season to contxnue.
In 2010, it broke again and was tmporarily repaired. With te assistance of Mike
Kishirnoto with NRCS, engineering pans were completed a1on with an estimae of the
costs to instal he pipelne.
If this section of the ditch is not repaired accordi.g to current standards and needs, the
ditch will fail, causing addiional seditnents to nter the Colozado River, and eeate soil
erosion from adjacent f eds.
This project asures proper distribuiion of water to the shareholders and asures clean
water being rturned o the river.
onstruction
Tii D1C'1 G011.7c1]y S12t.1'3U t7I ,L71. ciYi CAUC I.UCI'SI.CI1 CUIITULI.lUI1 LLC, u Ri.fle,
CO3 for the work.
'Iease see attached photos.
The work consists of teaiirig down the existing ock wa11, digging the trench for the
pipeline, surveying for grde, rnatching ihat grade, installing the pipe, covering he pipe,
leveling the sol for drainage, atd instaling a couple of drain pipes above the pipeline to
divert runoff water from the pipeline.
While the work is progressing on the pipeline path, large bouders wii be hauled in and
put in place alang the xiver bank ta pro#ect the pipelne fram erosion. Kuersen
Construcion will place the rocks.
