5. Please provide a brief narrative description of the proposed project including purpose, need,
facilities, type of water uses to be served and service area. Attach separate sheet, if needed.
The project is to develop Raw Water Infrastructure to deliver water from Lake Nighthorse
to Lake Durango. The yield of existing water rights dces not meet demand in drought years.
The service area is primarily rural residential ruraUagricultural. The water will be treated
at the Lake Durango Water Treatment Plant and serve existing customers as well as
existing and future demand. The project will also allow the Authority to provide treated
water to the planned La Plata West Water Authority distribution system.
