The North
Fork Water Rights Lease will supplement the Republican River Compact Compliance Pipeline and will
reduce the amount of ground water that will be pumped during the term of the North Fork Lease, thereby
prolonging the life of the aquifer in the area of the wells that will be used as Compact Compliance Wells.
In addition, the water can be relied upon by Yuma County cities as an emergency augmentation supply in
the event that compact compliance efforts fail and municipal wells are curtailed per the North Fork Lease.
The purchase contract also includes a dry up covenants from the sellers. The Republican District, has
agreed to lease the water rights from the Yuma County PID for 20 years for a one-time, upfront lease
payment of $5 million.
Project Data
Sponsor: Republican River County: Yuma, Phillips, Sedgwick, Water Source: North Fork
Water Conservation District Logan, Washington, Lincoln, and Kit Republican River
Carson
Terms of Loan: $4,545,000, 20 years @ 2.25% Substantial Completion: 5/1/2009
Design Engineer: Slattery Aqua Engineering, Parker, CO & Helton Williamsen, Englewood, CO
Legal Counsel: Hill & Robins, PC, Denver, CO
Project Elements: Reduces annual depletion pumping by 2,500 AF
