Drought Tolerance of Bedding Plant Annuals at Welby Gardens, Denver, CO. <br />General Category: Plant Selection, Water Budgeting, Drip Irrigation, Soil <br />Amendment/Ground Preparation <br />Study Type: ❑ Journal ® Private Study ❑ Book ❑ Government/Agency <br />❑ University_ ❑ Manufacturer <br />Study Description: As an association of many independently owned garden <br />centers, the Garden Centers of Colorado initiated the X -rated Program to give <br />their customers solutions to drought related problems. The X -rated List is a list of <br />annual, perennials, shrubs and trees that are able to tolerate lower levels of water. <br />The objective of this experiment was to determine how much irrigation water is <br />necessary to maintain healthy bedding plants by `being irrigated at "fiyiv different <br />levels: 100% ET, 75% ET, 50% ET, 25 % ET, and 0% ET. <br />Year(s) Data Collected: Spring and Summer 2003 <br />Quantitative /Qualitative: Provides quantified information regarding at what <br />level (100% ET, 75% ET, 50% ET, 2'S %© ET, and 0 % ET) certain plants can <br />survive. <br />Summary of Findings Related to Landscape Water Conservation BMPs: <br />• Provides information on how much irrigation water is necessary to <br />maintain healthy bedding plants. <br />Caveats: N/A <br />Expected Transferability= of Findings in Developing Quantitative Estimates: <br />® High ❑ Medium ❑ Low <br />Page 2 <br />
