TOWN OF HILLROSE
WATER RIGHTS PURCHASE
Proiect Description
The Town of Hillrose is located approximately 15 miles east of Fort Morgan, along State Highway
No. 6. The Town has a population of 270 and currently serves 132 water taps, with the potential of
an additional9 taps. Typical water usage per year for the Town is 40 acre-feet. In 2003, however,
given the prolonged drought, the town restricted outside use and reduced the usage to 26 acre-feet.
In average years outside watering accounts for approximately 70% of the Town's total water usage.
The Town currently has one tributary groundwater well responsible for supplying all of the Town's
water. The well is augmented under the Lower Platte and Beaver Canal Company (LP&B) plan of
operations and is subject to curtailment in dry years under the LP&B plan of operations.
The Town is in the process of alleviating its dependence on this well by connecting to Morgan
County Quality Water District (MCQWD) for domestic water service. This will enable the Town to
utilize the well as a secondary supply, dedicated for outdoor irrigation. This project enabled the
Town to purchase 6 shares of LP&B, bringing its total to 7 1/5 shares (resulting in 19 AF normally,
9 in dry years). When combined with 12 AF expected annually from MCQWD the Town will have
significantly addressed the Town's dry-year augmentation need scenario.
Proiect Data
Sponsor: Town of Hillrose County: Morgan Water Source: South Platte River
Terms of Loan: $49,995 @ 3.0% for 30-yrs.
