1) Determine the timing, amount and location of return flows to the South Platte River,
2) Optimize the design and operation of the recharge project, and
3) Develop a tool to better define the impacts of the recharge operation on wildlife
habitat on the SWA, and physical structures on or near the SWA.
A brief discussion of the general site characterization, model description, and preliminary
results are presented in the following sections. Detailed descriptions of project elements
are included in separate Technical Memorandums. Table 1.1 describes these
memorandums.
TABLE 1.1
TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM DESCRIPTIONS
1
l
Technical
Name
Brief Description
Memo No.
A
References
Summarizes results of the search performed to locate past studies
conducted in or near the Tamarack SWA.
Investigates the geology near the Tamarack SWA to provide data and
B
Geology
information for the design and construction of a groundwater flow model
for the South Platte River alluvial aquifer
C
Hydrologic
Summarizes available data on aquifer properties near the Tamarack SWA.
Parameters
D
Evapotranspiration
Describes how the. evapotranspiration input was derived for the Tamarack
Recharge Model
Water Level Data
Describes the water level monitoring network used to calibrate the model.
E
Four surface water locations and 53 groundwater locations, for a total of 57
and Surveying
locations, are monitored at the Tamarack SWA .
Grid and Boundary
Describes the model grid and boundary conditions assigned to the
F
Conditions
Tamarack Recharge Model.
G
Well Pumping and
Describes how the data files for well pumping and recharge were derived
Recharge Data
for the Tamarack Recharge Model.
Describes the calibration process and results for the Tamarack Recharge
H
Calibration
Model (Tam001a). The Tamarack Recharge Model consists of seven
pumping wells and eight separate recharge areas. The time span included
in the model is from November 28, 2000 to October 31, 2001
Project River
Provides analysis of Project accretions to the South Platte River based on
I
Accretions Analysis
data from Tam001a. The model was also modified so as to maintain a
constant ET irrespective of depth to groundwater (Tam001c).
Describes the expansion of the Tamarack Recharge Model Version
J
Tamarack Model
Tam001a -c to over the entire Tamarack Recharge Project (10 wells and 3
Expansion
recharge ponds). In addition, an analysis was performed to estimate the
impact to Project accretions from neighboring operations.
MODFLOW and
Compares Project accretions generated using the Tamarack Recharge
K
SDF Methods
Model (Tam002c) to those generated using the Stream Depletion Factor
Comp arison
(SDF) Model.
Analyzes the sensitivity of head calibration and river recharge in the
L
Sensitivity Analysis
Tamarack Recharge Model to changes in model parameters such as
hydraulic conductivity, and specific yield.
