Lcng Draw Reservoir Enlargement
The attached report presents results of our investigations and
analyses of the engineering feasibility of enlarging Long Draw
Reservoir located in the upper reaches of the Cache La Poudre.
It has been concluded that the most economical enlargement would
be to a total capacity of 10,800 acre feet, which is an increase in
storage capacity of 6,400 acre feet. This would regUire raising of the
dam from a 60 foot height to an 82 foot height, from elevation 10,073
feet to 10,095 feet.
The investigation has shown that the existing darn needs substantial
work performed on it even if the new addition is not made. Ravelling
and seepage have occurred on the downstream face of the dam, if the
enlargement was made, there would be no need for any additional rehabili-
tation work on the dam other than that made as a part of new construction.
The estimated cost of the Long Draw Dam enlargement as planned is
$405,000, which represents a unit cost of about $65 per acre foot. This
is a very low cost for storage. We know of no other po ±ential storage
sites on the Poudre which would approach this unit cost.
Based upon our past work for the Company which resulted in detailed
reports in September, 1964, and August of 1965, and upon our investiga-
tions of the Long Draw Reservoir enlargement, we are of the opinion that
the Water Supply and Storage Company should undertake the raising of
Long Draw Dam as presented in this report.
Very truly yours,
Kenneth R. Wright
am A. Clevenger
