SECTION III
EXI_ STING AND .RE_gNDED FILTERED WATER STORAGE
EXISTING STORAGE FACILITIES
At the present time there exists two concrete water storage tanks con-
structed on ground level foundations. These are located north of Highway 34
and halfway between the city limits and the filter plant. One tank has a
capacity of 1.50 million gallons and was constructed in 1995. the other was
built in 1952 and has a holding capacity of 4.00 million gallons. These units
have a common pipe connecting them with the transmission lines. The piping
is so arranged that the tanks "float" on the transmission system.
Figure 1
There is no automatic control between the level of these reservoirs and
the filter plant. There is, however, a level - sensing device in the tanks
which transits a signal over a telephone circuit to the plant. This signal
is recorded at the plant and enables the operator to be aware, at all times,
of the tank level and the subsequent need for greater production of the plant.
The two tanks are of the same height and have a common overflow.
