This request was not granted as it
would change the storage requirements for the Chatfield Reservoira
j would require a sponsor or sponsors to provide water rights and cost
sharing.
The proposed P. L. 566 flood prevention project on Plum Creek could
provide a proportion of the space requested by the Bureau of Sport
Fisheries and Wildlife for Public Recreational Development in the
Chatfield Reservoir and at no change of flood prevention or sediment
storage capacity in the Chatfield Reservoir and at no loss in floodwater
and sediment benefits to downstream areas.
Since there now appears to be no entity that has either the necessary
water rights or funds for cost sharing in the construction of multiple
purposes in the Chatfield, it is reasonable to expect that after the
Chatfield Dam is built there will be extensive public pressures for
recreational uses in the reservoir. So much so that one will be
incorporated as soon as a good water year occurs.
This possibility should not be questioned as is evidenced by the
recreational uses of the Cherry Creek and John Martin Reservoirs.
Based upon the very definite possibility of this occurring soon
after °-he single purpose Chatfied Dam is built, public fishing and
recreation could be incorporated in the Chatfield at no loss in planned
capacities due to the estimated capacities available for substitution
in the proposed Plum Creek structural programs.
