The services of a geotechnical engineer will be engaged to monitor
all compaction testing.
Outlet Works
A. Water Level Control Vault: To facilitate more controlled release rates at the
reservoirs, in-line water level control vaults will be installed in the
embankments at both reservoirs. Each vault will have fiberglass reinforced
plastic stoplogs which can be removed to provide the desired water release
rates. Each vault has a secured access hatch which will extend 6-inches
above the dam crest. The water level control vaults will have staff gages on
the inside for visual inspections of the reservoir water levels.
B. Outlet Culvert: Each reservoir will have 18-inch HDPE culverts installed to
replace the failing CMP culverts. The outlet culverts will have 18-inch
perforated riser pipes, with stainless steel wire mesh screens, to function as
the new water intakes. Mesh screen openings and perforated HDPE riser
pipes will be sized to preclude fish and debris entering the water intake
structures. Screens will be placed at the outlets of the culverts to prevent
animals from entering the conduits.
C. Sand Collar Filter: Sand collar filters will be incorporated into the outlet
design. The sand collar will be placed around the outlet conduit at a location
beneath the downstream slope of the dam and will be approximately midway
between the dam crest and downstream toe. A perforated PVC drain will be
placed in the sand collar material and connected to a solid wall PVC pipe
outside the sand collar.
D. Spillway: New spillways will be constructed to replace the existing
deteriorated spillways. The proposed spillways have been designed to pass
the 100-year storm event (200 cfs). The trapezoidal spillways will be
constructed with riprap placed on an impermeable hypalon liner. The riprap
will extend to the toe of the embankment. The dam freeboard, the vertical
distance from the bottom of the spillway to the dam crest, will be established
at 3-feet.
