Welcome to CROA - Colorado River Outfitters Association
system to remain undammed and undiverted. The Yampa meets the
Green River before flowing over Colorado's western border into Utah.
Once home to the Fremont Indian tribe, the Yampa River is one of the
most scenic in the state. Along the river rafters will find, dense wildlife,
pictographs, large sandy beaches, wild flowers, and rich foliage.
Among the unique scenic elements is "Tiger Wall," a towering
sandstone wall named for its black streaks.
The water level of the Yampa depends entirely on runoff from snow
melt during the earlier parts of the whitewater season, in late May and
early June. Some of the Yampa's better known rapids including
Teepee, Little Joe, and Big Joe - all rated Class III. Warm Springs was
a minor rapid until flash flooding and falling rock from a cliff changed
its character, earning it a Class IV rating in June of 1965.
The Yampa begins high in the Rockies near Steamboat Springs. The
river is accessed by outfitters located near Grand Junction, Colo., with
departures from Steamboat Springs, or from Vernal, Utah.
<< Back to Media Information
P.O Box 1662 * Buena Vista, CO 81211 * www.croa.org * (303)
280 -2554
Members Listing I River Map of Colorado I River Ratings
Select a Trip Code of Ethics I Media Information I Our Links
CROA Brochure I CROA Home
/* SPI N
© 2006 OutdoorMind LLC All Rights Reserved.
onwoormind
http: / /www.croa.org /media -2.htm 12/28/2006
