- 2 -
Plum Creek Watershed
Preliminary investigations are continuing on the Plum Creek Watershed
comprising 222,000 acres in Douglas County.
Alternatives are under consideration, one of which provides for eight
floodwater retarding dams and the other provides for ten dams. Planning
on the watershed involves continuing coordination with the Corps of
Engineers in connection with that Agency's studies in progress in the
South Platte Basin.
OPERATIONS
Pine River Watershed
This project located in LaPlata and Archuleta Counties comprising 58,000
acres authorized for operations during fiscal year 1966 includes the
construction of two floodwater retarding dams and.the rehabilitation of
irrigation facilities.
Construction is nearing completion on one retarding dam and a contract
was awarded on November 17 to build the other dam. The cost of these
structures will be about $150,000 which will have a combined capacity of
some 300 acre feet. ✓✓ They provide protection for farm land, irrigation
facilities, roads acid associated properties.
Home Supply Watershed
This project located in Larimer and Weld Counties near Loveland comprising
34,048 acres authorized for operations in fiscal year 1965 is primarily a
water management project. It includes the construction of a 5000 acre foot
irrigation reservoir and improvement to Home Supply Ditch and Handy Ditch
irrigation systems. The latter involves realignment, consolidation and
concrete lining of main canals, concrete turnout structures, water measuring
flumes, etc. Construction costs are estimated at about one million dollars
which is shared 50 -50 between the Ditch Companies and the Federal Government.
The first construction contract awarded in March 1966 involving an expenditure
of $250,000 includes ditch improvement works.
Lo uden Watershed
This project located in Larimer County near Loveland comprising 20,000 acres
authorized for operations in fiscal year 1966 is also a water management
project. Several major canals will be improved in a similar manner as those
in the Home Supply project. Construction costs are estimated at about $230,000
which will also be cost shared 50 -50. The first construction contract on
this project was awarded November 15, 1966 in an amount of $70,000.
