VU -GRAPH SLIDE <br />CHATFIELD LAYOUT <br />This is the general plan of the Chatfield project, with the major <br />features indicated in yellow, and the conservation and flood control <br />pools shown in blue. It also shows part of the road network within the <br />reservoir which will require relocation. In brief, relocation work will <br />include 2 railroads, 2 highways and a number of secondary roads, several <br />water supply ditches and the relocation or modification of telephone <br />and electrical lines and underground power and gas lines. <br />When completed, the project will control a drainage area of slightly <br />more than 3 square miles. The rolled earth embankment will have a <br />maximum height of 152 feet and a crest length of 12,700 feet. The spill- <br />way will be 500 feet wide and will have an ungated chute. <br />Reservoir storage capacity will be: <br />Conservation pools (dark blue on slide) 20,000 acre -feet <br />Surface acres: 1,150 <br />Flood control pool: (light blue on slide) 215,000 acre -feet <br />Surface acres: 49750 <br />Surcharges 120 acre -feet <br />Total Storage 355 acre -feet <br />VU -GRAPH OFF <br />For comparison, Cherry Creek Dam and Reservoir controls a drainage <br />area of 386 square miles. The embankment has a maximum height of 140 <br />feet and a crest length of 14 feet.
