. '

Proposed Scope of Work For Western Slope (Divisions 4-7) GIS Data Organization
Riverside Technology, inc.
13 June 2002
Introduction
The goal of this work is to organize historical GIS data for Divisions 3-7 (the Western Slope plus the
Rio Grande) using a consistent set of standazds in the structure, distribution, display and
documentation of the data. The data will be organized in a manner similaz to the Division 3 GIS data,
with minor improvements and modifications.
Apnroach
GIS technology is constantly evolving, with most users lagging behind vendor developments by
several months to more than a yeaz. ArcView 8.1 will be released in the near future, but it will take
time for the majority of users to upgrade from the current version 32. Our intention is to make the
GIS data organization meet today's standazds, while ensuring compatibility with other software
developments on the horizon. Thus, the data, projects, and documentation performed under this
activity will serve present user's needs with the most current software and data formats. The data will
be organized consistently, so that they can be very easily transferred to newer formats as required in
the future.
Tasks
There ae three main tasks to be completed as part of this woric: (1) prepaze the data in a consistent
format, (2) package tlqe data into ArcView and ArcExplorr projects, and (3) create documentation
for the data, including metadata and release notes, and post to the web site for user access.
1. Data Preparation
■ Refresh shapefiles, including point data, using the I-ydrobase SQL Server spring 2000 release.
■ Review the fields in the shapefiles' attribute tables. Identify and document attributes that can be
linked to values in HydroBase, focusing on linking structure ID numbers with HydroBase records
and coded values with HydroBase look-up tables.
■ Clip data to Divisions in cases where features span multiple Divisions.
2. Create Projects
■ Create ArcView legends for the shapefiles. This will allow reuse of the same symbolization in
multiple projects.
■ Create ArcView (version 3.2) projects. These projects will contain a ready-to-use GIS displays
lazge format plot layouts.
o Create templates for the layout and the base layers.
o Use template to create individual projects for the different layers similar to the Division 3
projects.
o Make data paths relative. This will allow the users to install and use the data and ArcView
project in any directory.
o Create ArcExplorer (version 3) projects containing the same layers as ArcView projects.
3. Documentation and Access
