FOR IHE CONSTRUCTION OF RESERVOInS P1VD <br />IRRIGATION. WORKS` AND THE MAINTENANCE OF A -CONSTANT STRE A vii FLUV'; FOR iECRE TION _�;ND <br />OTHER PURPOSES; TO-PROVIDE FOR OFFICERS OF SAID DISTRICT AND TO PROVIDE F01,_rHE <br />CREATION OF SPECIAL ASSESSMENT •DISTR.ICTS F011 ANY OF SAID_ 1 vtiITHIN SAID <br />PRINCIPAL DISTRICT. <br />Be It Enacted by the General „Assembly of the State of Colorado: <br />Section 1. In the opinion of the General Assembly of the State of Colorado the <br />conservation of the water of the Colorado River in Colorado for sto'ra -e, irrigation, <br />mining and manufacturing pu. -poses and the construction of reservoirs, ditches and <br />works for the purpose of irrigation and reclamation of additional lands not yet ir- <br />rigated, as well as to furnish a supplemental supply of water for lands now under <br />irrigation, is of vital importance to the growth and development of_ the entire dis- <br />tri.ct and the welfare, of aliL its inhabitants and that to , promote the health and <br />general welfare of the State ofiColorado an appropriate agency for the conservation, <br />use and development of the ?cater resources of the Colorado River and its principal . <br />tributaries should be established and given such powers as may be necessary to safe- <br />guard for Colorado, all waters to which the State of Colorado is equitably entitled <br />under the -Colorado -River' Compact. <br />Section 2. That there is hereby crested �eater,conservetion d -'str -t to be known <br />and de:signE.ted as "The Colorado River Water Conservation District.” Such district <br />is hereby declared to be a body corporate under the laws of Colorado: ..Scid district <br />shall comprise the following urea and territory: _Mesa County, Garfield County, Pitkifi <br />County, Eagle Delta County, Gunnison County and Summit County in the State <br />of Colorado.. <br />Section 3. The said'Colorado River V1atrr Conservation District shall be <br />and controlled by a board of seven directors. The members of said' board shall hold <br />their office for a term of three years and until their successors are appointed and <br />qualified. One member of said board is to be selected from e < -ch of the respective <br />counties in said water conservation district, and Ut the time of his appointment <br />shall have. been a xesident of said county for at le rust two ye_:rs prior to the date <br />of his appointment and shall be a freeholder who has paid ,taxes upon rer1 estate <br />in the county of -his residence during the calendar yerr next preceding his appoint- <br />ment: He shall be appointed by the board of county commissioners of the county in <br />which he resides. He. may be a'member of the board of county commissioners of such <br />county. Within thirty days after this act becomes 'effect ve the board.of county <br />commissioners of such county.
