0 i
Notwithstanding the provision of Section
9(a) (iii) of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act,
the detailed boundaries of the area to be
withdrawn from appropriation under the mining
laws and from operation of the mineral leas-
ing laws, shall be established as part of the
management plan developed pursuant to Section
3(b) of the Act.
In addition to the above consensus recommendations, the
State (i.e., the Colorado Department of Natural Resources)
recommended that the 35 -mile West Dolores River be designated as
a recreational river under the management of the U.S. Forest
Service in cooperation with the State of Colorado.
Map 2 shows the classification recommendations.
Impacts of Designation (from Study R eport)
o Designation of 105 miles of the Dolores River and 56,400
acres comprising its immediate environment will ensure
maintenance of its "free- flowing" condition and of the
existing scenic, recreational, geologic, fish and
wildlife, historic, cultural, and other natural values.
o Additional recreation facilities will be provided thereby
enhancing camping, picnicking, and rafting opportunities.
o.
