Town of Vail - Town Council - Town Council Highlights - Archive - June 12, 2001 Pagel of 8
own Louncii Migring
June 12, 2001
Contact: Suzanne Silverthorn, 479 -2115
Community Information Officer
[ Evening Session Briefs ] [ Upcoming Topics ]
Work Session Briefs
Council Members Present: Donovan, Foley, Kurz, Ogilby, Silfer
- -Vail Local Marketing District Quarterly Meeting
Sitting as the Vail Local Marketing District Board, the Council voted 5 -0 t
loan the Marketing District $350,000 in town funding at the end of 2001
with the understanding the loan will be repaid if and when the funds are
available. The loan provides working capital for shoulder season
marketing and is needed due to the lag time in collecting the 1.4 percent
lodging tax, which generated $1.5 million in its first year. Councilmembe
reviewed and rejected another option to reduce the 2002 marketing
budget by $350,000 in a one -time cut to resolve the shortfall, noting the
need to build, rather than cut, the program in its initial years. In other
business, Finance Director Steve Thompson noted that board insurance
and the cost of an audit would be added to the 2002 marketing budget.
Also during the meeting, Councilmember Diana Donovan expressed
interest in revisiting the board's management contract with the Vail Valle
Tourism and Convention Bureau at the next quarterly meeting. For more
information, contact Steve Thompson at 479 -2116.
-- Designation of Staggered Terms for the Newly- Appointed Vail Loc
Housing Authority Members
As a follow -up to last week's appointment of the Vail Local Housing
http: / /www.ci.vail.co.us /town council /highlights /archive /2001 /010612.htm 01/30/2002
